
Causes and Effects of Stress:
Sometimes stress can be an incentive to get things done which in turn is a good thing but when stress continues and becomes a long term factor then it can wreak havoc in your life.
Let’s face it, stress is in everyday living, the kids screaming, the boss’s deadline, the chores needing to be done, that person who ran the red light, and so on. But if you don’t take control of it, it’ll start controlling you. Stress can interfere with your life by starting fights within your family or with friends right down to affecting your own health physically and emotionally.
Stress has different triggers for each person. Although the main trigger for stress reported by people seems to be their work. •Heavy work loads •Long hours •To much responsibility •Having poor management •Job insecurity •Discrimination or harassment at work •Unhappy with job
And on top of the work issues listed above, there’s the life stressors that are gone through as well. •Moving •Illnesses •Caring for loved ones •Divorce •Financial Obligations/Bills •Death of someone •Getting Married •Loss of a job •Events that effect you in a negative way •Emotional problems; Depression, Anxiety, Grief, etc..
Then if those stress factors aren’t enough, many people inflict self-stress onto themselves by literally stressing out over uncontrollable things such as •Fear •Uncertainty •Worrying •Unrealistic expectations •Perceptions •Change
There are different levels of stress and it all depends on how a person responds to a situation. Something that will affect you as a minor hiccup, can totally stress another person out to the point of becoming sick.
The effects of stress on the health of your body can be quite serious. When you are in a stressful situation, your body reacts with what’s called a “flight or Fight” response. This is because the body’s nervous system releases hormones which causes you to react. Some people even notice their heartbeat speeds up or breathing gets faster and some feel their muscles tense and even start to sweat. Fortunately, the body usually recovers quickly from it but if your stress level stays active over a long period of time then it can lead to more serious health problems.
Short periods of stress can cause •Headaches •Sleep problems •Fatigue •Irritability •Upset stomach •Concentration issue
Long periods of stress can cause •Depression •High blood pressure •Heart attack •Ulcers •Weight gain or loss •Bowl issues •Skin problems •Fertility issues •And many more
Managing your stress is very important and can make a real difference to your health and your life. Learning to handle situations and your stress levels is a good idea for anyone. There are different types of coping skills that help many people handle their stress levels along with self-care. Utilizing massage, Reiki, yoga, meditation, and/or smudging makes a huge impact on the level of stress in ones life.
