Christmas Meaning

Christmas time is a beautiful season to see but along with the beauty comes depression and stress for many people during the holidays. Now, depression typically comes from a loss of a close loved one which takes time to work through and time to heal. Understanding is huge in this aspect of Health and healing. The stress factor of this wonderful time of year is caused mainly by self-infliction. That’s right, we do it to ourselves. Worrying about getting gifts, having the decorations up, keeping up with the new trends of the year, and the list keeps growing right along with the stress.

While all the adults are worrying about the cargo ships not bringing “stuff” to shore in time, the inflation of cost per item and getting their orders done in time, take a moment to stop and notice the children all around. Children are such a wonderful delight to the true meaning of this beautiful season and joyous holiday.

I believe it is time for the grownups to get a reality check from the little ones. Seriously!

Have you ever asked a group of little kids what they would want if Santa was sick or had covid? Would they want a bunch of toys or would they want Santa healthy again? You’d be surprised to hear their answers of wanting Santa well again. They don’t even care about getting any toys, a new bike or that computer game. All they want is for this famously unknown jolly, fat man, called Santa, to feel better. Never mind the fact that they don’t even know who he is, he’s sick and needs to feel better, that’s it. A complete stranger needs to get well. That’s it and boy, how simply put too. Any child would give up their toy just so this stranger would feel better and be well.

Isn’t that amazing and yet sad at the same time. The fact that a small child knows the importance of health more than the adults raising them.

A child’s unconditional love for a person they don’t even know is the sparkle of the true meaning of Christmas. Could you imagine what a wonderful world we would have if adults took on the wellbeing of children?!

To be in awe with the snowflakes falling out of the sky or the fun of making a snowman or snowball to surprise your victims with. How about laying in the snow and swishing your arms and legs to make the perfect snow angel? … When was all of this fun innocence taken from us?

At what age did we decide that wanting someone to be healthy instead of getting a present wasn’t right or enjoying life in the moment was unacceptable?

Exactly when did commodities become so important in our life and what is it, we’re really teaching our young ones? It’s definitely not caring or putting someone else’s needs before ourselves. What a sad world we’re creating when commodities mean more than a person’s health. Stress is one of the main health problems during the holiday season which creates a negative impact on our little ones.

Luckily, it’s not too late for a change and the way things have been, it’s perfect timing. If the shutdowns and covid taught us anything, it’s to simply slow down. That’s basically what covid and the past two years have been screaming. Slow down, take time, enjoy your life and those around you. Remember what really matters in this wonderful world and give respect back.

Life is never as long as we think and it’s gone in a blink of an eye. It’s something to cherish and create memories to pass on. Take the time to heal, take the time to relax, take the time to rest, and take the time to enjoy fun with your family and friends. Time to make those memories.

Yes, this year let’s go back in time and remember what it was like as a child, having stress nonexistent, and what was really important to us. It wasn’t the gifts, toys or presents under the tree. It was the excitement of trying to see Santa, making the homemade cookies on the kitchen counter and having fun with family and friends outside in the fresh fallen snow.

Christmas isn’t ruined because ships are stuck out in the oceans. Not unless you make it that way. Christmas is more than an item purchased to give someone. Christmas is the innocence of beliefs, the creation of fun, the growth of something unconventional, and the investment of caring. So, let’s have a peaceful holiday this year and stay healthy by not stressing.

Christmas, my dear friend, is nothing other than a child’s pure love.

Merry Christmas to all.
