Covid: Facts or Myths

There are several things that many people believe are true which are simply incorrect. I’ve spoken with some medical providers and doctors to get as accurate information as possible to help my readers feel more confident and knowledgeable about covid because not everything on Facebook or TV is true. Here are a few things that are misunderstood.

I’m vaccinated so I’m immune to covid. – MYTH

No, you are NOT immune. You most definitely CAN still get covid even after being vaccinated.

I’m vaccinated so you’re safe around me. – MYTH

NO, people are not safe around you because you got vaccinated. You most definitely CAN still infect other people with covid even after you’re vaccinated.

If I go into the hospital, they’ll draw blood to check my labs. – FACT

Yes, most likely that will happen and it’ll tell the medical team caring for you where they should begin. One prime lab they look at is a level of a marker that indicates blood clots. With this, they can determine if you should have a CT scan done to look for blood clots in the lungs. This marker is also elevated when the person has covid.

Covid is just like getting a cold or flu. It’s no big deal. – MYTH

Covid can damage the body’s organs such as the lungs, heart, kidneys, liver and more, a cold or flu does not. Covid can create blood clots in the lungs, a cold or flu does not.

Covid raises the iron levels and liver values to dangerous heights even months down the road after having it, a cold or flu does not.

Covid takes months to heal from, a cold or flu does not.

Covid affects the mind and thinking abilities, a cold or flu does not.

Covid is not a simple cold or flu.

Covid affects people differently. – FACT

This is one reason people are confused by the severity of covid. Everyone is different. We have different DNA, pain tolerance, mental and emotional status, health variables, and so on. Therefore, covid does and will react differently for each and every one of us. Although the damage it can cause inside the body is not known by the person.

Everyone should get vaccinated. – MYTH

There are some people who are not a candidate to receive the covid vaccinations. Some peoples’ doctors say it is not in their best interest to receive the vaccinations. Their medical information is best left between them and their doctors to decide. Don’t be the one to judge others. Someone who is vaccinated is no less a threat to you than someone who isn’t vaccinated. Here’s a concept, it’s working together instead of attacking each other for our choices and beliefs.

Vaccinations help you to not get As Sick, if you get covid – FACT.

Most people who get vaccinated and come down with covid seem to not be affected as severely by it. Although there have been reports of some still getting very ill, but not dying. Just remember, even being vaccinated, you CAN still spread covid. There are many people who are not able to have the option of getting vaccinated and that’s why everyone (both vaccinated and not vaccinated) need to help each other instead of arguing which is better and who is right. The bottom line is; if you’re going to point fingers, judge, or push your beliefs on anyone else, then you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. And Covid Wins!

Now here are some tips from the doctors and medical providers I’ve spoken too about what can help if you get or have covid. Not all of these items are feasible for everyone. For example; a person that has heart issues may not be able to take the decongestants listed below or a woman who is susceptible to UTIs won’t be able to soak in baths, nor is it wise to give percussion to someone who has blood clots in their lungs. So, by all means talk with your doctor and use the protocol that’s correct for your individual self.

Here are some tips professional doctors and medical care providers are suggesting;

· STAY HOME – It doesn’t matter if you are vaccinated or not. If anyone in your home is diagnosed with covid the entire household should stay home to control the spread.

· Boost – Take vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc, to help boost the immune system.

· Water – Drink lots of fluids like water, orange juice, cranberry juice, to flush the body and help with dehydration issues.

· Over the counter – Take DayQuil and NyQuil or Robitussin, to help break up the congestion.

· Soak – Do Epsom Salt baths which are good for soothing the body’s aches, relaxing muscles, and may decrease joint inflammation along with detoxification for the body in a gentle manner.

· Eat – Even if you’re not hungry, continue to eat. The body will use energy from food to continue its fight against covid and heal, plus food will help the stomach absorb the medications and keep you from feeling nauseous.

· Oils – Use essential oils to help fight the germs, boost the immune system and uplift your mood for a better outlook.

o   Anti-viral essential oils: Lemongrass, Lavender, Thyme, Cinnamon

o   Anti-inflammatory essential oils: Ginger, Thyme, Eucalyptus, Lavender

o   Immune boosting essential oils: Eucalyptus, Lemon, Rosemary, Tea Tree

o   Antioxidant essential oils: Orange, Ginger, Peppermint, Lime, Lemon, Lavender, Lemongrass

· Facedown – Lay on your stomach. This actually helps the lungs work better and get more oxygen easier.

· Melatonin – Try taking melatonin at night. This is helpful towards covid, although they haven’t quite figured out why it helps so much, they just know it does. Plus, it’ll help you sleep better too.

· Percussions – Having percussion done to the back will help loosen congestion.

· Rest – It is important to get plenty of rest. If you ever asked anyone who has had covid, most will say they’re exhausted so resting isn’t an option, it’s a requirement.

· Bloodwork – After a few months, getting lab work rechecked might be a good idea. In some cases, people have had a large increase in their iron levels and liver counts. So, getting a blood draw is suggested as high levels can create other health problems.

· Breathe – If you have trouble breathing or your symptoms are getting worse go to the emergency room or call 911.

· REMEMBER – Covid is not something to ignore, take lightly, or to think it’s just a joke. It’s not a cold or flu. It is Very Serious!

· Hint – If you need to ask if you should go to the emergency room, then you already know the answer… Go!

It is highly recommended to speak with your doctor or healthcare provider before trying any of the things mentioned to determine which is best for you and your unique health situation. Let’s do our best to stay healthy and support one another in every way we can.
