Help for Fibromyalgia

Many people are affected by the painful chronic disease of fibromyalgia, with the number of diagnoses increasing yearly. Although it has been found to affect the musculoskeletal system, there is not much information about the condition or what the causes are.

However, it is believed that one of the major contributors to the development of fibromyalgia is stress, and as the stress levels are elevated, the symptoms are worsened. It is also believed that the pain felt and musculoskeletal tissue is referred pain that originates from a different location. Making it difficult to find relief.

Often a person with fibromyalgia will have a dual diagnosis that may not have anything in common with the disease but can add frustration and more stress to the person’s life. Even the simple changing of the seasons and weather conditions will typically cause a shift in the pain patterns of a person with fibromyalgia.

The symptoms of fibromyalgia, range from poor sleep, tender spots, aches and pains, migraines, depression, and more, can be decreased through regular therapeutic massage. By working the muscles and soft tissue with gentle therapeutic massage therapy, the body can improve sleep, improve muscle tenacity, relief stress, increased blood flow, reduce pain, decrease anxiety, and depression, relieve headaches, and increase flexibility, all which helps with fibromyalgia.

Although there isn’t much knowledge about fibromyalgia, it is a known fact that therapeutic massage therapy does help when done on a regular basis with a medically educated, licensed massage therapist that understands and has knowledge on the subject.

Remember it’s important to seek out a licensed therapeutic massage therapist when there are these types of conditions. Allowing any therapist to work on you could lead to treatments not perform properly, causing flareups, and more pain.

Any qualified massage therapist should have their license in viewing area for all clients to see, which most people do not know. If you do not see their license, it is perfectly all right to ask. Massage therapists are professionals and they understand the importance of being licensed. By asking, it shows the therapist that you care about your health and understand how crucial our licensing and training is.
