“Let It Go”
It’s an easy statement for many people to say, “let it go”. The big problem is, they never tell you how to do it. No fault on their part, since they’re only repeating what they were told through their times of issues or needs. In fact, more than likely, they themselves, really don’t know how to do it.
The biggest part is the misinterpretation of the phrase “let it go”.
Generally, the first thing that comes into a person’s mind when hearing those words is actually letting go of a physical object. Such as a helium balloon. As we let go of the string, we watch as it floats away. We’ve essentially “let it go”. But, it’s not that simple with the human emotions, they’re not a physical object to release. So, we do the first thing we were taught, we suppress our feelings, our emotions, over and over again. We hide them, buried them, and push them farther away from our thoughts. It’s a learned behavior from one generation to the next.
This learned behavior subconsciously takes control and after a while, the suppressed emotions will start to create problems within your life. Those pent-up emotions slowly began to fester and then start spilling out into your life. It’ll cause problems in your relationships with family, friends, and significant others, until eventually it’s affecting your everyday life, including work.
No one even taught you how to “let it go” because in reality it’s not letting it go, it’s actually learning. Learning how to accept it, learning how to change the meaning of different emotions, and learning how to look at and perceive those emotions/feelings differently.
By accepting everything as it is, now in the moment, will help you from battling yourself. There’s no need to fight with the past because it can never be changed for anyone. The key of accepting, allows you to move forward in life knowing that the past happened for a reason, even if you’re not sure why. It doesn’t matter why because it’s what put you on the path you’re traveling now. It’s either the path you’re supposed to be on or it’s the path that will lead you to where you should be.
Try using your past as a tool, for your future life. Instead of “letting it go” try changing it to thinking of “letting in” the things you want. This will keep your mind focused on your positive path forward, instead of the negative path you’re trying to leave behind.
Then start to perceive the emotions as they truly are. Fear of the unknown can turn into curiosity to grow while perhaps stubbornness can turn into listening with an open mind or being more understanding with yourself.
When you begin to accept your past, you’ll move forward and begin to feel a sense of relief. That will become your “let it go” in the end. In reality, it’s the growth you achieved through accepting and learning that is letting go. Reiki therapy would be a good place to start if you’re not sure where to begin. It’ll be the first step towards taking control of your life!
