Meditation

Awaken to the Possibilities”

The ancient practice of Meditation is becoming a daily part of many people’s personal self-care habits nowadays. In fact, some parents are choosing to have their children taught meditation now, so they can handle stressful circumstances later on in life. The knowledge of this ancient practice is spreading, as more people are looking for holistic ways of healing and leading healthier lives. Today, most doctors and specialist are recommending Meditation to their patients for healing and health improving purposes. Even scientists are saying that Meditation rewires the neural channels of the brain promoting inner peace and equilibrium, which can solve lifestyle malfunctions.

What most people understand about Meditation is the promotion of mental balance by controlling the “monkey mind”, but there are the typical myths and misunderstandings about Meditation also, such as

  • Having to empty the mind.
  • Sitting for hours at a time.
  • Chanting in foreign languages.
  • Or other fears that prevent starting Meditation.

The practice of Meditation is about learning how to work within yourself by handling the “monkey mind” (constant active thoughts) in a different way. Feeling things become quiet and calm instead of rushed and chaotic.

Meditation can be practiced for an hour or longer, right down to just a few minutes. It depends on the persons preference and their experience level within the practice itself. Remember some practice is better than none and there will be easier days than others during the ongoing practice and journey.

Being comfortable is a good idea but this doesn’t mean sitting in a lotus position. In fact, many people cannot sit this way due to health issues. Some people prefer to do Meditation while in movement, such as walking, while others like sitting on a Meditation cushion, in a chair, or on the sofa. There are many styles of meditation to choose from but don’t get too overwhelmed, it’s just about finding the best Meditation for you. Again, it’s a preference and really doesn’t matter as long as you pick a way that works for you and your body.

During your Meditation session, it is totally your preference to use chanting or not. Some people find that chanting mantras during Meditation is beneficial in helping them release emotions, but it’s not necessarily needed in order to practice Meditation. Sitting and connecting with the breath while calming down the “monkey mind” is really it.

Guided Meditation sessions are also a good option for those who want to begin Meditating but are unsure where and how to start. Many people find attending a guided meditation class is more helpful than listening to a recording because of the social connection, personal guidance, and a likeminded group setting. The most important part is to find what resonates best with you and your individual needs.
