Neuropathy and You!
Neuropathy can be linked with many different medical conditions and can impact the body in different areas, in a variety of ways. Neuropathy may affect just one single nerve or a group of nerves at the same time.
Diabetes is known to be a common cause but injuries, toxins and infections can also result in this disease.
Neuropathy is several kinds of conditions resulting from damage to one or more of the nerves usually found in the peripheral nervous system. This system is the largest nervous system running throughout the entire human body except for the brain and spinal cord.
The human nervous system is separated into distinct systems but consists of two primary systems which might be beneficial to learn about if neuropathy becomes a part of your life or someone you love.
Neuropathy can affect any nerve in the body but usually affects the feet and legs and sometimes the hands and arms, with symptoms of weakness, a pins-and-needles sensation, numbness, and pain from nerve damage.
Although medication is prescribed by doctors for this disease, some suggest the discomfort of neuropathy being eased through specific massage therapy techniques done on a regular basis.
Massage therapy helps control pain levels and the discomfort of neuropathy by relaxing the muscles, decreasing the pressure against the nerve itself, increasing circulation and endorphins to control the pain and de-stressing the body.
Be sure to inform the massage therapist about your neuropathy before the session begins so a plan of action can be discussed and the correct treatment is performed.
